Now that I played brandywine a couple more times, I'm starting to narrow down how I feel. Basically, if it don't do ANYTHING FANCY (like alt tab) then it's fine, if i start switching programs in the middle it gets a little bitchy. It intermittently crashes on my box, mostly during the loading phases. RTW and M2TW works fine, so what gives CA. I am still waiting for the RTS to come along at some point that takes supply lines into account. I would have liked to see more range information and different powder loads. I was happy to see that the AI does plan for optimal firing positions however. (There could be more than the demo makes apparent.) There is a lot more to sea combat strategy than simply attacking targets. Note: The sea combat appears decent but I was hoping to see more navigation/wind speed tactics.

Maybe the British just hadn't had teatime yet? - View image here:. Yet people DO end up dying, surprisingly.) (Granted they "mostly" appear to be stabbing each other in ETW but they don't really seem to be "TRYING" to hurt each other very much. View image here: -Īt any rate I think in this day and age combat in RTS games shouldn't be moving ghostlike characters around who don't actually connect with their targets in melee. but after seeing a Spartan body slam an Elite in Halo Wars I think I've gotten spoiled in the "visceral" combat area. I know the scale is obviously greater in ETW. but I was sort of expecting more than that in 2009.) (This has long been the case with RTS games. It looks more like people "pretending" to fight each other in a sort of haphazard lazy kinda way. However, even when it's running I don't really like how the combat is so slow. I imagine that's probably Steam DRM eh? I think I will probably be getting a boxed copy then.

I just wish it didn't take so long (like 3 minutes!) Just to get to the start screen. If my performance is indicative, expect some waiting between screens, with or without progress bars.Ĭorsair XMS2 4GB (DDR2-800, 2 x 2GB, 1.9V, 5-5-5-12, Model CM2X2048-6400C5 ver3.1) The good news is that the naval tutorial I played ran quite fluidly once I could get to it.Įxiting the tutorial once again made me wait about 30 seconds. View image here: -Įdit Edit: I switched it to Automatic graphics settings (I'm surprised at the large amount of detail it recommended for my lowly HD3850 512MB) and it hung again for another 30 seconds but ultimately pulled through. But now when I try to switch resolutions in the settings menu, it hangs again. It apparently loads (sometimes) after about 30 seconds.

At the loading screen for the demo, it just hangs.
